For the love of Nick Nolte, why is it so bloody cold in this city?

I realize that statement is really all based on perspective since I spent 4 years in Ottawa putting up with colder temperatures and I routinely have it pointed out to me that it is at least twice as cold in Winnipeg at any given moment from ex-Pegger roomie Cassandra. I told her I was frozen at The new Pornographers outdoor show on Saturday and she responded with a, “What’s wrong with you? Its like a spring day outside” as I defrosted in front of the fireplace (aflame with scraps of wood from discarded dressers picked up off the street…and a copy of “Dianetics” also picked up off the street and burned more on principle than anything else.)

The free shows for the WinterCity fest at Nathan Philips Square was delightful, albeit freezing. I just think back to August when I was stuck on a furry couch in Japan’s humid and sweltering heat. Mobile was damn good. I’m surprised I even typed that. Damn good indeed. Why, I would even consider paying $10 to see them. They completely sold me by the end with a cover of The Police’s “Message in a Bottle.” I actually danced to it- partially because it was so good and partially because I had lost all feeling in my toes.

I’ve never been a fan of the New Pornographers and I can’t say I’m a fan now. I’m sure they put on a good show for their fans like Lauren and Eve, but I was counting down the minutes until it was over and humming Arctic Monkey's songs to myself while thinking about saunas, hot tubs, and donuts. I give them a “meh.” They didn’t make me want to pick up one of their albums or even listen to the 4 songs of theirs I have on my iPod. They’re no Mobile.

I have 2 extra tickets to Kaiser Chiefs in April if anyone is interested. Otherwise I will ditch them on eBay or Craigslist.

Playlist voting ends tomorrow when I get around to finalizing the list. I’m also bailing out on work on Friday so I don’t know exactly when the new voting list will commence- either Thursday night or Friday night. I’m unpredictable.

In parting, never watch Final Cut with Jude Law.
